Scientific Background | SP1 is a ubiquitously expressed transcription factor that belongs to the SP/KLF family. It is 785 amino acids long, with a molecular weight of 81 kDA. It interacts with many other transciption factors such as c-Myc, EGR1 and Stat1, and has also been used as a control protein to compare with when studying the increase or decrease of the aryl hyrdocarbon receptor and/or the estrogen receptor.Activity and stability are regulated by post-translational modifications. SP1 has been found to be high in patients with Alzheimer's diease. |

AP (Alkaline Phosphatase)
Properties:
- Broad enzymatic activity for phosphate esters of alcohols, amines, pyrophosphate, and phenols
- Commonly used to dephosphorylate the 5’-termini of DNA and RNA to prevent self-ligation
- Catalyzes the conversion of:
- Chromogenic substrates (e.g. pNPP, naphthol AS-TR phosphate, BCIP) into coloured products
- Fluorogenic substrates (e.g. 4-methylumbelliferyl phosphate) into fluorescent products
- Molecular weight: 140 kDa
- Applications: Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA
