Biological Description
Alternative Names | mCherry Antibody, mcherry Antibody |
Research Areas | Fluorescent Proteins, Tags and Cell Markers |
Swiss Prot | X5DSL3 |
Scientific Background | mCherry is a fluorescent tracer in transfection and transgenic experiments. Originally it was derived from proteins isolated from Cnidarians (jelly fish, sea anemones and corals), specicially DsRed, a red fluorescent protein from the disc corals of Discosoma species. DsRed is similar in properties to GFP, but, produces a red rather than a green fluoresence. mCherry was engineered with further multiple cycles of mutation, directed modification and evolutionary selection, and in its monomeric form has an excitation maximum at 587 nm and an emission maximum at 610 nm. |

HRP (Horseradish peroxidase)
Properties:
- Enzymatic activity is used to amplify weak signals and increase visibility of a target
- Readily combines with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to form HRP-H2O2 complex which can oxidize various hydrogen donors
- Catalyzes the conversion of:
- Chromogenic substrates (e.g. TMB, DAB, ABTS) into coloured products
- Chemiluminescent substrates (e.g. luminol and isoluminol) into light emitting products via enhanced chemiluminescence (ECL)
- Fluorogenic substrates (e.g. tyramine, homovanillic acid, and 4-hydroxyphenyl acetic acid) into fluorescent products
- High turnover rate enables rapid generation of a strong signal
- 44 kDa glycoprotein
- Extinction coefficient: 100 (403 nm)
- Applications: Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA
