Scientific Background	CDK4 is a protein-serine/threonine kinase, and a part of the protein kinase complex important for cell cycle G1 phase progression. Its activity is restricted to the G1-S phase. CDK4 is responsible for the phosphorylation of retinoblastoma gene product (Rb) and mutations in this gene as well as in its related proteins including D-type cyclins, p16(INK4a) and Rb were all found to be associated with tumourigenesis of a variety of cancers, such as cutaneous malignant melanoma type 3 (CMM3).
